Student Attendance

Once registered, your lesson time has been reserved specifically for you. It is your standing weekly appointment, and must be paid for regardless of your presence.

Each private lesson student is allowed 2 Excused Absences (1 per session, September 1st – Dec 31st, January 1st – June 30th) where they will be owed a make-up lesson. If a student cancels, notice must be given to our office via email or phone by 6PM the evening prior to your lesson, in order to be eligible for a make-up lesson. The make-up lesson must be rescheduled and taken in addition to your regular lesson. It will not replace your standing weekly lesson time. JSMS will do our best to provide several opportunities for make-up lesson options, some of which may have to be with a different instructor if the student’s typical instructor is fully booked, and the makeup lesson must be completed within two months. If the makeup lesson is not completed within the two-month period, the lesson is forfeited. If the student misses their scheduled make-up lesson, it is forfeited.

Additionally, private lesson students are allowed one “rescheduled lesson” during the JSMS School Year (September 1st – June 30th). To qualify as a rescheduled lesson, the lesson MUST be completed in the same week. We cannot guarantee your teacher’s availability for this option, as our instructors are not here all 6 days per week that we are open, so the rescheduled lesson may be with a different instructor. If the lesson cannot be rescheduled within that week, it will be subject to the cancellation policy above. To clarify, “same week” means some time between

Monday – Saturday when JSMS is open, the same week that your lesson would normally take place.

Students enrolled in a group lesson or class do not receive a credit or a makeup if they miss the class. We treat group lessons like you would a sports team, so if the entire class needs to be cancelled (instructor absence, school closure, etc) we will then offer credits or makeups as needed.

Emergencies, injuries or long-term illness that keep you from your lesson can be handled on a case-by-case basis.

If student attendance is consistently irregular or they are not showing up to lessons, JSMS reserves the right to take that student off the schedule after having a conversation with the student or their family.

Teacher Absences

We do our best to supply a substitute teacher if the instructor is out that day. If the lesson is cancelled, the student will be given as much notice as possible via phone and email, and will receive a credit.

ADULT Flex

Adult students must put a credit card on file. Lessons will be charged weekly. If you cannot attend your regularly scheduled lesson, you must give 24 hour notice to avoid being charged for the missed lesson.

Holidays, Vacations and Snow

  • Please see the JSMS calendar on our website for details on holidays and vacations. JSMS is closed on federal holidays and Hanover Public School vacations. In case of inclement weather, all private lessons will be shifted to online lessons for the day(s) of the closure, and will be treated like your normal in-person lesson. Should there be a power outage at your home due to inclement weather and you cannot access the online lesson, JSMS will honor a credit to your account. Group Classes, Workshops, and Ensembles will be cancelled due to inclement weather, and will be credited to your account on the next billing cycle. We will do our best to notify you in a timely manner with unforeseen school closings, and you will receive a credit for a closed business day. You can also check our Social Media accounts for cancellation notifications. We honor religious holiday observances and provide credit when given advanced notice.

  • *Online lessons will only be used in the case of inclement weather school closures, and will NOT take the place of your regular in-person lesson due to other absences when JSMS is regularly open. Online lessons are only used in an emergency school closure, and cannot be used as makeup lesson options.*

SUMMER FLEX

Our school schedule runs through the end of June. The Summer Flex Schedule (July and August) allows students to reschedule a lesson with a minimum of one week’s notice at no charge. The auto-pay program will continue as normal and will run at the beginning of each month.  If you know you are gone for a certain week, we can try to double up the following week or adjust your auto-pay.

Payments

All students are required to enroll in our auto-billing program. This is a secure, convenient way to pay for lessons. Once you are enrolled, your credit card will be charged on the first day of each month. Students are billed monthly for the number of lessons they have that month, with a reminder email going out to students/families a few days before the start of each month indicating how much your card on file will be charged. If you need to update your credit card on file, please call our office at 781-204-1677 or email admin@jessestiglichmusicschool.com.

If you need to fully withdraw from lessons or take an extended break at any time, you will be refunded 50% of whatever is left on that month’s billing statement.

Students enrolled in an ensemble will be charged monthly just like private lessons.

Students enrolling in one of our group classes or workshops will be charged up front for the entirety of the session.

There is a Registration Fee of $35 for all new students. After students are enrolled in our system, there is a yearly Registration Fee of only $20 that runs when we re-enroll the student – usually in September, or if they have taken an extended break (90 days or more) and are coming back to lessons.

Jesse Stiglich Music School reserves the right to suspend or discontinue instruction for any student who has not made a payment by the second lesson of the month. It is the students’ and/or parents’ responsibility to ensure we have the correct credit card information on file. The student is welcome to be reinstated to lessons, but we cannot guarantee that their initial lesson spot will be available.

A late payment fee of $25 will be added 10 days after the due date.

FAQs

How often should I practice?

This is up to each individual teacher based on the level of the student, but we generally recommend multiple times per week for 15 – 20 minutes each practice session to get started.

While you may not need one immediately when you start lessons, it is highly recommended that you have an instrument at home so you can practice in between lessons. All of our faculty and staff at JSMS can help you find the right instrument!

For beginners, we recommend starting with 30 minute lessons. Once you’re in the swing of things and both the teacher and student feels a longer lesson would be beneficial, lessons can be extended to 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

That is up to YOU! Our teachers can show you everything they know, but if you don’t practice, you won’t progress. We understand that everyone learns differently, so students often work together with their teachers to map out an effective and realistic practice schedule to help improve their skills.

Yes! JSMS offers plenty of performance opportunities throughout the school year, ranging from our recitals, community events, and full on rock band shows. Don’t want to perform? That is OK – all private lesson students are presented with the opportunity to perform, but is not required.

We can help you schedule an additional weekly lesson, or help you make the change altogether from one instrument to the other.

JSMS - When you arrive at your lesson

Jesse Stiglich Music School is located at 155-C Webster St, Hanover, MA, 02339.

When you pull into the parking lot, JSMS is the 3rd door down. We have seating in the main room for people to wait for their lesson. If you’re early for your lesson or waiting to be picked up, students can feel free to hang out in the waiting area with each other or bring school work to stay busy.
