LESSONS
Group Lessons are hugely beneficial for all musicians. Take the tools and skills you learn in your private lessons, and use them to help learn how to play in a group setting with other like-minded musicians! All ensembles and group lessons are set up so students are matched with each other by similar age, ability and musical interests. Take your playing and musicianship to the next level by trying out a group lesson!
J R. V I R T U O S O S
Junior Virtuosos is the premier group class that is designed to get children making music with others while learning about the foundations. Students will learn how to sing and learn basic vocal pedagogy, acquire basic piano skills, get introduced to reading music notation, and so much more! Junior Virtuosos is a great way for younger students to creatively explore music, while older students can take on leadership opportunities and learn something new along the way. Classes will also involve introductions to many different styles of music, as well as shorter sessions with other JSMS Faculty.
Ages 6-11
Session 1: Saturday January 28th – Saturday March 25th (No Feb 25th), 1-1:45PM
Session 2: Saturday April 1st – Saturday May 27th (No April 22nd), 1-1:45PM
ROCKBAND PROGRAM
Rock Band at JSMS is the premier spot on the South Shore for young musicians that want to play music with other like-minded musicians. Start a band that has dedicated weekly rehearsals with one of our Rock Band coaches, learn cover songs, write your own music, how to promote your band and music, book shows, and play live gigs! Students are matched based on age, skill-level, and musical interests, all in an effort to make sure that potential band members are the best fit possible for each other.
PERCUSSION
ENSEMBLE
Percussion Ensemble at JSMS is the South Shore’s premier spot for musicians that want to dive deeper into the world of percussion. With weekly rehearsals, students will get to play and perform unique and exciting repertoire written specifically for percussion. Students will learn how to play as individuals and together as a group, and will likely get the chance to play percussion instruments they may not have played before. Groups can start as small as trios and can be as big as seven members!
JAZZ
COMBO
Venture into the world of Jazz by being part of a Jazz Combo at JSMS. Students will learn how to play as a group, play jazz standards, have regular weekly rehearsals, study and experiment with improvisation, and so much more. Whether you are a beginner or have been playing for a while, students will be coached by a JSMS faculty member who will guide them into playing as a collective group. All skills learned in a JSMS Jazz Combo can also be brought into the student’s school jazz bands.
